Boston Gas Works is built.

1828

The first coal gasification plant built by the Boston Gas Light Company (chartered in 18220), it is located on a 7.5 acre parcel of land bounded by Commercial Street, Snow Hill Street, Hull Street, and Prince Street.  The company subsequently builds a wharf and coal sheds on the waterfront across Commercial Street.
